Default Calling All Riflemen (of All skill levels)!

Dateline: 2020-06-26 Catawba Valley Rifle & Pistol Club, Conover, NC

CVR&P (and the membership) is truly a blessing!

The COVID-19-related Cancellation of the much-anticipated Highpower Rifle Match initially scheduled for Sat., June 27 was a gut punch to say the least but, in the spirit of making lemonade out of lemons Match Director Randy Randolph scheduled an impromptu practice session ahead of the 5pm NC Gov.s mandatory mask reg.s.

2 members, 1 prospective member waiting on his 3rd meeting (has all reqts completed) and 2 guests were able to make it. The morning broke clear, cool and low humidity and a light breeze.

Randy invited former USAMTU anchor now National Level Competitor and NRA Highpower Coach Duane Lewis who made the 2+ hour drive up from his home in SC and what was intended to be an informal training session evolved into a training workshop that made every fogged-up eye pro and drop of sweat in the eye more than worth it!

For any who might be sitting on the fence and thinking about coming out to shoot: This ... Is ... Not ... An ... “Equipment Race.” I shot a rack grade rifle with iron sights as Randolph is gearing the program toward completely new shooters or those of us who’ve been away from high-power shooting for many, many decades. It is a great opportunity to ease into the sport without feeling rushed or unprepared.

It gets better! We were in at 8am and finished, range and target butts cleaned up and out the gate by 1pm

End rant

I don’t know if I can individually caption the photographs: however; they loosely show; Setup for the day; 3 minute prep period; dry-fire practice and establishing zero from Prone and Offhand Slow Fire (I didn’t get any photos of the excellent Sitting drills Duane ran us through)

Hope to see y’all on the line; have a Independence Day (this year perhaps more than any other :-/ and, God Bless America!

If RANDY had waited till the order was read and discussed with club officers
and the consulting Lawyer. He would have found that the match could have been held under our current procedures. The Governor's order has a multitude
of exceptions.
