Catawba Valley Rifle and Pistol was established in 1947 by men returning from World War II who were looking for a place to shoot. Over the years the ranges have changed to accommodate different disciplines. The original skeet range was positioned on the 100 yard range but was moved to make way for a silhouette range. The outdoor pistol range was originally named the 2700 range for its roots in Bullseye competition.
